Overheard in the car, between our good friends Texass and Teach.
(Texass turns to Teach) “You know, I love this song1 . But I have a question.”
Teach: “What’s that?”
Texass: I get the cutting down trees, the reindeer…the songs of joy and peace…”
Teach gives her a look that says “Get ON with it, already.”
Texass: “But what’s with the river?”
Teach: *blink* *blink*
Texass: “The river doesn’t fit. Why does she need a river? You can’t skate on a river, they FLOW. That’s what they do, they FLOW! You need a pond or somethin’ if you’re gonna skate.”
Teach: “Have you listened to the song?” I began to detect a slight tone of “Are you seriously asking me this question?”
Texass: “Yes! I’ve listened.”
Teach: “Why do you have to think about it? Just listen to it.”
Texass: “But WHY a river?! Why is she skating away? Does she hate Christmas or what?”
Teach: (clearly amusedly annoyed with her wife) “What is WRONG with you?”
Texass: “What? I just want to get the whole flying feet and getting away thing. And the river.”
Bayou: “It’s a Christmas river.” My honey just could not resist this interjection.
Texass: “I see. Thanks for clearing that up.”

- Joni Mitchell’s “The River”, in case you don’t want to click through. Lazy ass. [↩]
If Texass ever wants to skate on a river, she can come here anytime between now and March. There’s plenty of river to skate, snowmobile, slide, and drive on here.
“It’s a Christmas river” – it’s magic!
Joni is from Canada. Everything freezes up there.
I’ll be sure to pass that on, Liz. Right now, she’s in the WA State version of that- Eastern Washington. BRRR! Texass, if you’re reading this- Merry Christmas! My love to you and Teach.
