Why I Should Never Watch TV Before Bed.

I have weird, twisted dreams, THAT’S why.

First off, a bit of movie commentary- while I am interested in an ambivalent sort of way about I Am Legend, I am kinda turned off by it at the same time. It’s a desolate, aching picture about a lone man in a sea of violence…and. I. Just. Can’t.

That said, it looks good and I like Will Smith. The advertisement for it was the last thing I saw before I went to bed.

I dreamt Bayou and I had just arrived in Maui, literally just off the plane, when we got a phone call that her sister had died. (She doesn’t have one.) Of course, as one would in such a situation, we went straight to the funeral. So much for Maui!

After which I suddenly found myself in “I Am Legend” territory with a group of other terrified, frazzled humans just trying to survive. I distinctly remember fighting off ‘infected’ dogs and humans and being anguished at how many of them I had to kill to survive. I also remember finding a really old revolver and doing all sort of things to it to make it work. And when I say ‘really old’, I mean antique. It figures that I would be stranded in post-apocalyptic hell with a goddamn musket or something.

And then I woke up exhausted. Jeez, I wonder why- all that existential angst and grief and survival exercising couldn’t have had anything to do with it.

I’ve had the same nightmare on 2 separate nights now. I am not sure whether it derives from a movie, but if someone made a movie out of my dream, I’ll be pissing my pants!

I Am Legend is the best version made out of the book, although not a masterpiece.
And regarding to read before going to bed, Stefan Zweig said it’s not a good idea, cos you lose sleep time. But, of course, it depends on everyone…
