So I won $35 in Amazon.com gift certificates recently, and I decided to replace my beloved Canon Elph that Bayou accidentally sat on at Pine Ridge. It still works, but the display is kaput and you can’t control any of the settings, know how much battery life is left, etc. We take it kayaking and stuff because really, if it gets wet, no big loss.

Anyway, I ordered this beautiful little camera Thursday and paid a little extra for Saturday arrival. If you’re in the market for a good digital camera, and don’t want to lug around a big one, this one has a lot of great features:

-greater ISO flexibility
-special shooting modes like color swap and color accenting
-scene modes like foliage, indoor blur reduction, and fireworks grab

In short, a LOT of features in a small but stylish package.

Anyway, we hardly ever use our front door, but we have a mail slot and packages are delivered there. I parked myself on the couch torturing my soul watching soccer, chatting with Bayou about her trip the Gorge Friday, and generally relaxing. I had the inside door propped open so the light could flood into the living room via the screen door, which was also propped open a bit. (Courtesy of a wonky hydraulic arm.)

I turned my head at the sound of the screen door opening, and the mailman handed me out daily dose of junkmail. “Thank you, sir!” I said, smiling as I took it. As he walked away, I began cursing DHL in my head. Then I just couldn’t contain the kvetching, and said “Criminy, DHL! I want my camera! Where the hell are you?”

Bayou turned to admonish me to be patient, and not a moment after I uttered this the screen door opened again, and the DHL driver put my camera down on the stoop.

“Hi! Thanks! Have a good day!” I said without missing a beat or betraying my embarrassment. I got up and got the box, and watched him drive away, before I turned back to Bayou.

Talk about a big, “HAHAHA- nice move dumbass!” grin on her face. She didn’t need to say anything or laugh.

Lesson learned: ask -or kvetch- and you shall receive, along with a side of chagrin if you’re not careful.
