Don’t DO THAT!

Alternately titled: How To Scare Your Mothers To Death

When I got up this morning, I was treated to an episode of The Incredible Disappearing Gypsy. I walked into her Kitty Infirmary only to double-take; where the hell was she and how had she scaled the babygate??

It turns out she was catching her winks under the bed. All the way under it, next to the wall, necessitating I move the bed to reach her. She actually looked surprised at my efforts.

We decided to set her up in our backroom/dining room/computer area, since there is pretty much no place to hide and it’s more open. We were running very late this morning, what with poor sleeping and kitty care tasks taking up a chunk of time. I told Bayou to go on without me and I’d catch the bus.

After I medicated and cleaned Gypsy, I finished getting my stuff together. My phone rang, and I took a last peek at her under the futon before I wrapped up my mad dash to leave. I shut the door behind me a few minutes later and proceeded out the door.

Bayou called me in a panic at lunch.

“You locked Gypsy in the backroom, right?”

“Yeah, why?”

“She’s not in here!”

We hung up while Bayou continued her frantic search of the house. About 5 minutes later she called back- Gypsy was under our bed, hanging out. Apparently she had slipped back there before I left, unnoticed by me.

You can bet for those 5 minutes while I waited every horrible, karmically cruel and insensitive possibility played itself out in my mind.

Seriously, cat. I can’t take anymore heart attacks this week.

I read about the attack. I am so sorry to hear of your grief and fright, I hope Cleo turns up soon, you never know with animals. If you get the chance to corner the neighbor, you might ask if he knows anything about Cleo. It would be the very LEAST he could do, give over any clues he might have.
    God Bless.

Thanks, April. I appreciate your kind words.

We did ask him, and claims to know nothing- and I can neither prove nor disprove his statement. So I will just continue to operate on the premise that she is out there, somewhere. We’ll keep looking.
