Last night, Bayou and I did something we should’ve done months ago- we cleared out the fridge, freezer, and butcher block table of junk food.
Wow, that felt good. It was seriously overdue. My honey also made a list of main dishes and sides, so we can eat the oldest stuff first. I think this is the first step to getting us back on a healthier, more balanced plane.
Baby steps.
Wooot! Sometimes small steps can be HUGE
.
It took us about 18-months to transform from processed-food-cooking / restaurant-every-other-night eating creatures (with the weight gain and acid reflux to go with it), to the healthy, cooking from scratch eating, we-just-bought-half-a-cow’s-worth-of-organic-hormone-free-beef eaters. We don’t even have a microwave oven. It’s hard to break long term habits. In our case, we’d have never done it without baby steps. Baby steps all the way.
I agree, Trop. We’re kind of a mixture- we eat out some and cook at home some, with a mixture of organic/fresh and processed stuff.
One thing that has helped a lot is just forcing ourselves to read the calories/nutritionals on anything that we’re looking at. Sobering- and helpful when trying to control portions. I know we can’t do this cold-turkey, but I do think these are the right first steps for us.
Its definitely a lifestyle change, takes more time and more thought to eat all from scratch, but once those tools are in place you forget the old days and the old ways.
No dear… purging is what you do after binging. What you were doing is called removing temptation.
Haha! True, Trep. I think I like the sound of your phrase better. We could also call it “Temptation Renovation”.
