As someone who grew up loving The Muppet Show (and to a lesser degree, Fraggle Rock) this article on CNN tickled my fancy. It’s basically 20 vignettes about different characters.
13. Beaker: I always thought of Beaker and his buddy Bunsen Honeydew as characters that came along later in the Muppet timeline, but they have been around since the “The Muppet Show.” Although Beaker usually says things along the lines of, “Mee-mee-mee-mee!”, he has had a few actual lines: “Sadly temporary,” “Bye-Bye” and “Make-up ready!” Despite being word-challenged, he manages to do a pretty convincing Little Richard impression and, surprisingly, had mad beatbox skills. Beaker is one of the only Muppets that was never recycled from some other purpose — he was created solely for “The Muppet Show.”
So who was your favorite Muppet? I loved Statler and Waldorf & the Swedish Chef.
I’ve never been able to get into the Muppets. If pushed to choose it’d be Kermit because he was a smart little dude, but then again, frogs also gross me out so it might not be him.
But he was an awfully fuzzy and cute frog!
Definitely a tie between Kermit and Beaker. My Dad used to watch the Muppet Show with us and he liked it as much as we did… Those were rare moments of familial happiness. “Sadly temporary” – I LOL just at the memory.
I read that and had to laugh, because I didn’t remember that at all.
I have a bunch of Muppets I loved. Kermit, Miss Piggy and Fozzie. Also, Animal! I can’t pick a favorite. The judges were awesome
